I am running a 69 200 engine bored out .030. 3 on the tree. The trans. is also a 69 3 speed. It does have the sincromesh and that makes it alot better. My carb now has the manual choke and I was wanting to put an auto-matic choke on it for easier starting. If there is anyone out there with an old 1100 carb that still has the auto choke on it but maybe the carb is no good I would like to buy it. I assume that can be done to transfere the auto to the manual. Please help.

I thought it was the same and thanks. I will just look for a different carb.

This type of question comes up fairly often, usually the other way though. We should snap some pictures and throw them into a FAQ sort of sticky to make id easier. I remember thinking they could be converted till I saw them both. Not saying it cant be done but its not as simple as just tapping out some unused holes.

Howdy Bck Champ:

A '69 200 should have come OEM with an automatic choke. Has the original carb been converted to manual? Or is the carb you are using not the original?

To be a factory manual choke it would have to be a 1965 and earlier Falcon or Fairlane carb.

My recollection is that the choke side of the 1100s are all the same. The auto dashpot on engines with auto trans is on the other end, and that wouldn'a effect the choke side. The simplest way to gain an automatic choke is to find a carb with one in place. You will have to tap a hot air source from the exhaust manifold to the bimetal spring coil housing.

An automatic choke will not help your engine to start any better than a manual choke. Sorry.

FYI- a stock '69 1100 is rated at 150 CFM. '67 and earlier 1100s are rated at 185 CFM. Unfortunately, all '67 and earlier 1100 have the SCV plumbing which you do not need or want. The trick thing for you is to look for an 1101 from a '69 Mustang with a 250 engine. It is rated at 215 CFM and has the correct ported vacuum source.

Keep us posted on your progress.

This 69 engine was purchased out of a junk yard still in the car with a lot of the parts gone. The carb was gone as well as most of the outer parts, dist. etc. I managed to put it all together after rebuilding it and it does run great other than getting hot most of the time. I am going to try and burp it to see if that helps. Other than that it does real good. Sounds like I am running at 3500 rpm's at 70 mph though. Need to check it further. Thanks and if anyone out there has a carb for this or an adapter for a carb off a 250 engine to where I can change it please let me know. Thanks to all. champion2211
