1100 too rich? over choked? or ???

So I finally got my trany fixed up & can now drive safely.
The carb I'm sure needs some attenetion. On starting there's a huge black soot patch at the tailpipe.
In the cool morning there's no acceleration, I guess hesitation/bogging down would be the description; but at speed it cruises just fine.
After it warms up it seem to run better.

Also it SUCKS down the gas! I put in about $30 the other day, the gauge went to 7/8, drove ~10-12mi nad it was down to 5/8 tank!

I'm not to intelligent on adjusting & tinkering, but am up to try some things before I seek local help. It was supposedly rebuild the same time the tranny was rebuilt 3yrs ago; but that tranny build was &#!!**# so it's possible the carb was either improperly rebuilt or adjusted too.

The choke does not close on accelerator mash down (cold start). It's hard to start after sitting a few days, once it starts there's no high rpm warm up, just goes into normal idle.

Suggestions/ideas???

I would rebuild the carb, if the car has been sitting for 1yr without being ran the carb gaskets can easily dry up and crack.

My recon would be the carb, then check your timing with a rebuilt carb.

...firstly ... WHAT? .. are you saying you can nearly fill your tank for $30?????
just worked out what that would be here in rip-off Britain... if the tank is 16 Gallons .. to fill from totally empty to totally full here would cost £85 ..... that's $135 !!!!!!!!
Jeeezzz ... think I'll come live in USA .. how's the job market?

Sorry - off topic a bit
.. I have exactly the same - '65 200ci green dot.. with 1100
I have the same with the black fluffy exhaust - loads of black stuff comes out and if used for short runs I allways get black sooty plugs but take it on a run of say 10 miles or more and they clean up nicely.

Did you take the air filter off when it's cold .. is the top choke flap closed? (it should be) if not check your bimetallic strip inside the black plastic round cap on the bulkhead side of the carb isn't choked up.. also you can rotate this to make the choke leaner or richer in the morning.
.. sos if you've already looked at that .. apart from that yeh check timing also.

Another major thing apparently is to check the float level isn't too high..

I have a thread on my rich running 1100; http://fordsix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=67468
and; http://fordsix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=67331
hope any of that helps

Thanks, I'll look into a rebuild. unfortunatly above my comfortable skill level, would like to get a 2nd 1100 to expirememnt with; but even used on ebay is $150+ :(

Gas is hovering right at $3.50US/gal here lately.
Just topped off the tank & got lawn mower gas yesterday, $80
