1101 vs RBS

Is an 1101 a better carb then a RBS? Better, as far as maintenance, performance, realibility? I have both carbs and want to know your opinion.
They will be mounted on a 76 250 w C4.

Howdy Ken:

I've used both and like both. Both have conveniences and weaknesses. The big difference as far as I can see is that the 1101 is an easy to adapt to a Pre 70 with mechanical linkage. It looks similar to a stock 1100 for a stealth upgrade. Stock 1100 fuel lines, air cleaner and linkage can be used. It is rated at 210 cfm.

The RBS is easier to use if converting to cable linkage. If you can find the steel fuel line from a Maverick or Comet 250, the fuel line is not a problem, or convert to a rubber hose line. It is rated at 215 cfm. It is a very low profile carb, but it would be easier to get the stock air cleaner along with the carb.

Both suffer from a weak accelerator pump system. Both are easily contaminated with dirt from the hot air intake to the choke. Keep them well cleaned and well filtered. Rebuild kits for the 1101 are a little easier/cheaper to come by. The RBS is easy to tune once you understand the Carter metering rod system. It is hard to find jets to fine tune the 1101. Both are super easy to rebuild. Both will have a ported vacuum tap for your '76 DuraSpark II distributors vacuum advance.

On your '76 I think my choice would be the RBS.

Will Carter AFB jets fit a RBS carb?
Also, my 250 has the Duraspark 1 distributor. Is there an adapter kit that will allow me to use the Duraspark II cap and rotor?

I can't tell you for sure, but I seem to recall that the answer to both questions is "YES".

It's been awhile since I messed with my RBS, and I only adjusted by moving the metering rod up or down. I don't recall that I even removed the jet.

As for the DS, I seem to recall that the inerds are the same. It takes an adapter ring for the larger cap, and rotor. It's not a kit, just parts.

You might want to start another post with "DS I to DS II conversion" as the title. It's likely someone here has done it.
