i have a 1966 ford bronco with a 170-6. i need to replace my head due to broken exhaust manifold mounts. i was wondering if any head off a 170-6 would work or if the bronco head was different. i know the carb was different than other applications. i have located a head that the advertiser says will work on 1961-72 170-200 eng. the casting number is c6de-6090-b and it has a 1 1/2 " carb inlet. any help would be most appreciated......

Yes, all 170 heads are interchangeable. In fact, ALL heads - 144 to 250 -are interchangeable.

The C6DE-6090- B head was actually listed for both the 170 and the 200. We don't know if there is an external way to tell the kidneybean shaped combustion chambers (used on 170) from the "D"-shaped combustion chambers (used on 200). Once you take your head off, you'll be able to cc a chamber and determine if you have a kidney or a "D".

The cc number is the most important item to match. Your replacement head should be the same or fewer cc's in order to keep your compression and HP up.

Good Luck
