1963 with a inline 6 in it. which one could it be?
The little 170 cuber. Quite a nice car to meander in. Underpowered, but a six seater with a nice 115 inch wheel base is a good size today. And people look.
Stock engine was the smooth, quiet four bearing Pursuit 170, with a manual 3 on the tree column shift, without syncro on first, IIRC, then 221V8, optional 260. I think the 200 was a 64.5 thing, and it wasn't untill later that the seven bearing 200's cam out.
Plenty of scope for improvement. A later seven bearing 200 'may' go in if it doesn't have a big bell housing, but I'm not sure what happens if its a two-stage or C4. And the manual isn't the same as the later all-syncro boxes.

What is the fifth digit of the VIN? Is it a T or a U? I'm showing that the 200 was available in the Fairlane in '63. If it is a 200, it would be the early version with four main bearings.
Also look on the passenger side of the block for a casting number.
144/170: C3DZ-6010-B
200: C3OZ-6010-E or -F
The number may be different if the engine has been swapped...let us know...we're here to help!

put 20k on my 270 so far..can hardly believe it myself. been fine fo rme. I get about 20 mpg tops out around 75-80mph. but a great car on the highway. is this a 500 or base model?

after scraping some grimy buildup of of the top of the air filter cover i found a sticker that said 200..........so i guess it is safe to assume it is a 200. right? also thomasville nc, and the fairlane is not for me, i am loking info up for a friend. thanks for the help guys.
