Hello, I'm looking for a reputable engine shop in the So Cal Area that can machine my straight 6 block and head; both 1978. I would like to have the intake log milled to add a two barrel carburetor as well. If anyone has some referrals I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

Sorry I do not have info on machine shops in your area but regarding 2v carbs there has been increased interest in using a small base Rochester 2v or similar Carter BBD because they can be attached to the existing carb pad with some modifications saving machine costs. Performance increase reported as good. May need linkage modifications.

Hey All,

I'm new here but have spent a lot of time poking around the site. I see/hear a lot of mixed terminology for describing parts and wanted clarity. I have a couple of late 70s 200 cylinder heads; one is on my vintage Econoline and the other is on a core engine in the corner. They both have a number cast into the intake: D8BE 6090 BA. One of them has a "X" cast into it. I've discovered that these are referred to as a "large log" head, but have heard/read about octagonal, round and flat "large log" heads.

Q: which do I have and is either a good candidate for the 2V conversion? Would...

^Yea, I'll second that. Using a modified 2 into 1 bolt on carb adapter with an enlarged throat on a big-log head saves a lot of money. Egging out the 1.75 manifold inlet yields a good increase in air flow while restricting the cash flow. And it can still be returned to stock or be altered to fit the real 2-barrel mount if you decide you need more.

this is where I got my engine rebuilt back in 2008, still runs good, but is mostly stock still, maybe give them a call to see if they can do everything you want to do...
