8) Is there a preffered brand or type of camshaft that everyone has used and is happy with? Beyond the Clifford cam, I was leaning towards a Schneider or even a Crane cam. Any thoughts?

I have a Comp Cam 260H.

Nice cam. Crappy customer service from the company.

Don't honesty have anything else to compare it to other then stock. Not many people here can compare cams other then stock.

I like my Comp Cam a lot. But I don't that it is better then any other cam.

My machinist used an Isky cam. I'll let everyone know how it works or not when I get the motor up and running again.

I would have gone with Mike's grind except he didn't have it available yet when I ordered mine (though by the time Comp Cams finally got it to me, I probably could have gotten one).

8) From years of small block Drag Racing...I still like Crane cams followed by Schneider cams. I guess I'll do some comparision shopping for lift, duration, overlap and r.p.m. range for a street 200 with a 5200.

I like my Comp Cams 260-H nice lopy idle. It has .440 Lift 212 Duration 110 Lobe separation. I order my from Jeg's $113. about 2 years ago. Russell

8) Does the comp cam run okay with an automatic? Not looking for the tip off lumpy idle, just some more low end to mid range.

The Comp 260 was a great cam in my old 250/AOD. Lots of low end grunt and pulled well from 1500 to redline.

But on a 200 with an automatic I think the Comp 260 is a little "soft" below 2500 rpm or so. I think Rick Smol might be able to give you his impressions.

my Comp Cam is not very lopey at all, except when it first starts up and the engine is cold (I don't have my choke working). After it warms up and is driven, the lope is hardly noticable.

Jack did mention a good point about it with an automatic. The cam is a little soft at low RPMS, but it is better then stock. Personally, I'm running a T5, so the automatic thing isn't an issue for me.

8) I'm leaning towards a Schneider 248D for my oldest son's car. Sounds like the low end to mid range will be good and offer a smooth idle.
