I did about three different searches to get there. Don't ask me what was different, 'cuz I don't know. :?

If the inside of that carb looks as bad as the outside it's time for a rebuild and thorough cleaning. That is if you intend to continue using it.
If not, having a cable throttle gives you some other options like a 2bbl, or an older 1946, or a Carter yf or rbs.
You could probably get something at a junkyard for $20 that's in better shape than what you have.

A Carter YF will work with your cable throttle linkage. It has much, much less smog junk on it than what you have on that Holley. :D

As others have stated, go with the Duraspark II ignition, it will fit right in in place of the stock points distributor and you will never have to adjust points again. If you pull the whole setup (dizzy, spark box, coil, and the wires between them) all you will have to do is connect one or two wires.

CZLN6 was right. I got the Chilton Fairmont manual in today took a look at the Carb diagrams inside and its definately a Holley 1946.Will I be able to get this running properly with the Holley 1946?

I will keep this project updated but right now I'm trying to get the ac condenser and steering shaft replaced on my 96 Mustang right now so I should start back working on it this weekend.

I got the 68 Mustang started today, surprisingly it is running good for sitting for so long. After i get some more time im going to try and get some of the wires and hoses ran properly.

Well is has another problem, its dieseling. I remember it dieseled once in a while before, but now it does it everytime you turn it off.

It that a timing problem or is it still the carb?

Howdy:

Dieseling can be lessened or eliminated by reducing the idle speed and reducing carbon buildup inside the combustion chambers. You might also try a step colder spark plug. What spark plug do you currently have in it?

Adios, David
