Hello from Texas, I am restoring my late wife 1965 mustang, The motor that was in the poor thing was a joke in the worst way, I. Got with S&j engine and got a fully remanufactured 200 long block. I know the block is a 66 casting. Now the head is a C9DE-6090, With a lot larger opening. Is this a large log head ?? Looking at the build sheet, The block as been done 60 over and repost from there test. All 6 is hitting 170 psi, She is still in the crate a little longer. This post pony was not done right and when Debra seen her.. we’ll. The rest is history

Yes, it is a large log head, but not the largest log. It has the largest runners and the same sized valves as the earlier 200s. The later heads got smaller runners and larger intake valves with an increase in the log volume...With the large log came a larger combustion chamber on the 200/250 and the same size on the large log 170 as the 66, not 100% sure without a pic of chamber. There is more power in that head than the 66 especially if you address the lower compression ratio and maybe install the larger 1.75'' late valves.

Hi, I believe you will be happy with that long block. Do you have a carb and ignition system? Be careful not to mis match parts. Older and newer parts don't work correctly when mixed together. Learn about that in the tech section here. The Ford Falcon Performance Handbook is a great resource. Good luck

Thank you. No carb. Still looking. I still have the original distributor, but have a high flow water pump, the radiator was still factory but showing signs of its age, A very well known radiator shop rebuilt it for me and put a new Core inside, the owner is a mustang fanatic so he told me he was going to have it done and supervised himself to keep it close to original but in a much better core

I had good luck with a cheap Chinese elec. choke Carter YFA carb on a large log head 200. You will need the Ford carb adapter that goes between the carb and the intake. You will also need a cable throttle, bracket and kick down cable kit if you have a C4. Don't use the 65 LOM dist.. Use a 68 or newer that has mechanical and vacuum advance. 68 and newer exhaust manifolds had a 2" outlet if you want to go with a 2" exhaust system. I think some Fords with the first large log heads had a Carter carb that will work the the Mustang throttle-kick down linkage.
