If I can get the deck height on the 223 engine then I can see which of over 5 stock Ford engines that have a 3.68 bore can be used in a stroker engine.

the deck height of a 223 is 10.00 in. the conp. dist. is 1.865 a 272 3.625 piston but the comp.dist. is 1.768 use 300 rods [6.200 long] crank pin 2.123 early rod .312 pin late rods .975 pin

277I6--thanks,
That's just what I need to figure out a stroker setup. Custom rods are so cheap now that going with them is cheaper than redoing old stock rods.
Do you know the stock intake and exhaust valve size of the 223 and how big a valve will fit in them? Also how big the combustion chamber is on a stock 223?
John

in my last engine I used chev rods 6.200 long After maket rods do not use bolts & nuts which gives more room for the cam My engine was a 262 bored .060 stroked 4.14 279 cdi 300 rods 292 ford pistons had to grind flats in the cam & grind on the rods Grinding on the rods is why I went after market rods We honed the pistons to use .927 pins

277, what rods were those that don't use bolts and nuts? Did they just use a cap-screw threaded into the rod? I've seen that on some VW's, but I didn't think they were any smaller since the cap-screw still has a head.

The H-beam rods are a lot smaller than a stock rod and are stronger too. I was looking at a set of 6.25" long Eagle H-beam rods if I could get a 262 crank to build a stroker 223. :D

yes eeyore h-beam & most aftermarket rods use cap-screw the head is on the cap. they do not have a boss for the head of the bolt so you have more cam clearnce i use chev rods cheeper ( speedway set ford 5.4 rods 8 for 499.95 chev 6.0 rods 349.99) more 4." pistons to pick from my dealer sold me 6 rods at a good price

277 I6,
I have located a 262 near me and want to build it up like you did using Chevy aftermarket capscrew rods. What Pistons are you using with that 6.20 rod? Are you using a 2.0 or 2.1 aftermarket rod? What bore size are you running? You said your last engine with the 300 rods had a 4.14 stroke. How much more did you stroke the new one 4.15 or more? What are you looking at doing with your engine? I want to build a Hamb Rail and have a little fun.

I'f you've actually located a real 262 I-6, congrats!
But be prepaired to spend big bucks attempting to make the crank Fit inside the 223's block, as the 262 crank is longer & bigger.
So that means you'll be having to grind a lot of metal out in order to do so & you'll be Weakening the walls of the block by doing so.
