All Small Six 250 Cylinder Head Options

This relates to all small sixes
Hi,

I have a 1963 1/2 Ford Falcon Futura with a later 250ci out of a Maverick (I have been told).
It has the cylinder head with the integral inlet manifold and would like to know what head to replace it with a bolt on manifold (Prefer 4BBL)
and also where I can purchase from as I am in the UK. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

welcome and pics' always appreciated - RH or LH drive? .
.
the USA 250's in Mavericks, Mustangs, Granada, etc were largest displacement versions of the 'Falcon Six'. All the iterations - 144,170, 200 and 250 cylinder head could be used/will fit. No factory small block six (USA) came with a 'bolt on ' manifold and very limited availability for aftermarket cyl head for bolt on 4BBl manifold ( look up 'aluminum head' 🙄 ').
.
250 (USA) uses same Flywheel, Clutch, Starter, Bellhouse as small block V8 (302/5.0) and the bellhouse fits most 'Toploader' 3 and 4 speed transmissions.

Hi, the fast way to tell a 250 from the smaller 144, 170, and 200 is the smaller three engines have a 3 bolt water pump and the 250 has a 4 bolt water pump. The 250 also uses the Small Block Ford bell housing with the low mount starter. Good luck

A nit pick - the V8 flywheels and flexplates won't work on the 250 (although the bolt pattern on the end of the crank is the same). You need one with zero balance, rather than the 28 or 50 oz balanced ones used on the V8s.

The only known source of heads with separate intakes that are bolted on that I know of, other than those from Australia or South America, are the aluminum heads sold by Classic Inlines or Vintage Inlines. The latter apparently has a long backorder waiting time. You may be able to find an earlier one used somewhere if you look hard and are patient.

There are some posts elsewhere on fordsix.com (here, in other forums) describing how to modify the integral intake head to either a bolt-on manifold type or a better flowing head with different carburetors.
