250 Engine Questions...

I've been poking around the 240-300 board for a while and just recently started looking at the 250 "small" I6.

I'm kicking idea's around for an I6 powered street rod. And I have tried searching for the weight of a 250 engine with no luck so far. So my first question is how much does a 250 engine weigh?

My second question is if the 250 head has an integral intake manifold how does the Offy 3 carb intake work on it?

Thanks....I'll keep searching in the mean time.....

Not sure of the weight, but the Offy 3 x 1 is an adaptor that requires drilling two additional holes at both ends of the integral intake to make way for the two end carbs. I would just wait until you can get your hands on one of Mike's upcoming aluminum heads which will have a removable intake manifold.

8) depending on the street rod you plan on building, consider a 200 instead. a T-bucket with a 200 is a neat combo. if you are going to build a heavy rod like a 40 ford, then the 250 would be better. as for weight, the 200 dressed out is like 400lbs, and the 250 is going to be about 30lbs heavier.

Paraphrasing our beloved Falcon Performance Handbook: engine weighs about 385lbs ranging from 350 to 420. A small block V8 wieghs 460.

I think the best thing going for a 250 is the wide range of transmissions since it shares the same bellhousing bolt pattern as SB V8; however, the 250 is two inches taller than the 200.

I'm putting a T5 tranny behind this 250:

Take care,

The bellhousing and the displacement is why I am looking at the 250. I am a subscriber to the bigger is better line of thought when it comes to displacement.

That's why I started looking at the 300 truck engine. Now the 250 has my attention as far as an I6 is concerned. Also the Jeep 4.0 and 258 have been getting looked at too.

John-
Love that tri carb set up on the 250!
I guess he 2" taller deck height won't make much difference if you put it in the bed of the Ranchero thay you have pictured in the background!

TJM73,
The soon to be released FSPP aluminum head for the 144-250 has a removeable intake so you can use a 2bbl, 4bbl, or EFI setup.
It's also 26.5lbs. lighter than a log head.

Now that's an idea! mid-engine Ranchero; unfortunately, I'll never finish that before Ford Fun Days in Sept. I having a heck of time just trying to get it to fit behind the front bumper. It's a shame those headers won't let me close the hood.
