250 rocker

Hey guys. I've been reading this forum for a while, and try to search for all my info, and normally I've found everything I've needed. I'm getting ready to swap a rebuilt 250 for the 200 in my 65 fairlane, and I finally made an account. I'm sure I'm going to need tons of advice for this swap! Here's the first question... I pulled the head to swap out the gasket and inspect the engine. When reassembling, I noticed a crack running through the rocker shaft underneath a bolt. I have a couple of 200 rocker assemblies but these both had adjustable rockers, while the 250 has non-adjustable. I have a couple of questions. Can I swap out just one of the parts that the bolt goes through from one of the other assemblies? (no idea what that part's called...) If so, how do I pull the pin out of the end of the rocker shaft? Or, can I purchase push rods for the 250 that have ball ends to match up with the adjustable rocker arms and use one of the adjustable set-ups? Would this require swapping out lifters? Thanks!

I think you could get a new rocker shaft for around 30.00 to 35.00 or also a rebuilt set of rocker assembly that would be the fast easy way. You can swap in the adjustable shaft too and than get set of custom made push rods to match. Lifters will not need to be changed to do the swap.

Yah those parts are interchangeable.
Drive the pin out with a punch.
Good time to clean everything but don't hot tank, it's aluminum.

Bubba it's the pedestal that's cracked, if I read that right.

 Okay thats my eye's seeing whats not there :bang: I have also had a shaft that broke though a bolt hole once or twice so might have also been an influence in that direction.

Pedestal! Hah, thanks! I'm sure the post would have been less confusing if I knew what that was called. And thanks for the info on the pin, I was scared to break it if there was a trick to getting out that I didn't know! Fortunately, the 250 is a rebuild, so the assembly is super clean. But I'll clean up that old pedestal before install.

ok... change of direction. I wanted to swap out the rocker in the 250 with my old one to gain the adjustability but i couldn't because the 250 had ball end rods. I just checked classic inline and they have cup end push rods for the 250. I think I'm going to buy that set and use my entire adjustable rocker assembly. Very cool on the 63! Mine's just a four door cruiser... but I've always loved the old boats :D

Good plan  on the swap to adjustable assembly it will make it much nicer to be able to keep rockers at the proper preload.

Ok cool. Thanks for the encouragement. After I deal with that it's on to trans sutff and motor mounts. I'm sure I'll have plenty more questions!
