i was taking off the exausut manifold and one of the bolts snaped off in the head how can i get it out and not damage the head

In my brothers truck an exhaust bolt broke off and to get it out we used a torch and heated up the area around the bolt and got vice grips and slowly twisted it out.

Sears sells 'EZ Outs' you have to drill a pilot hole through the center of the bolt and inset the EZ Out bit. The EZ Out digs into the hole in the bolt as you turn counter clock wise. You have to go slow with even pressure, because they can snap off too. Then you're in trouble (ask me how I know) OR go to a machine shop. Shouldn't cost too much. I bet one of the mechanics at Edaville can help you out..

Dont worry one bolt is no problem i had 4 brake of in mying... You got to take the head off and drill and tap it out. Be carefull!!! Good Luck!!!

The thing that I've found to work best is left handed drill bits. There is a way to use a cutting torch (I've used this method, but guess I'm just not good enough with it) & I've tried screw/bolt extractors, but I've had them break. Thats a REAL pain in the *ss! However, the left handed drills have always pulled the bolt out. You have to look around a little to find them (they usually come in a kit) & they can be spendy, but are definately worth it. I've had mine for years now & while I don't use them every day, they paid for themselves many times over. Just a thought.

An easy-out will work good if the remainder of the bolt is in good condition. I broke off every bolt for the exhaust manifold when i was taking apart one of my motors. The bolts were pretty rusty further down and just broke off inside the head. So now ive got to get a machine shop to remove them. So just be careful and take it easy on them so you dont end up with a bigger problem.
