60 F100 headers?

Helllo, I'm kinda new here. I did a search but I couldn't tell for sure.

Will the headers that Sac. Ford lists for the 53-56 fit on my 60? Has anyone used them on the later models?

Has anyone adapted the Holly/Weber carb and would it work with my stock distributor?

Thanks, Dave

No feedback huh? I have decided to take the plunge (take one for the team?!). I ordered a set of patriots from Jegs, $183. delivered. I'll let you know how they work out.

The collectors are 2". Any ideas on exhaust pipe diameter? Some one suggested 1 3/4", another 2" to mufflers (I'm thinking glass packs) then 1 3/4" on back. Any comments would be welcome. The truck has a 223+.060, stock cam, Carter YF 1 brl carb. I want to upgrade the ignition to a DuraSpark II. Stock t98 4 speed and planned 3.50 rear gears.

Please comment if you have any ideas or suggestions. I would like to get this right the first time.

Back in 1971, I installed a Ford 289 in a half ton Chebby pickup. The Chebby being an inline six did not have the offset engine mounting that Ford has done for so long to get clearance for the steering gear. I installed the bent 8 in and then tried to get the headers to fit. Wound up having to merge the two last ports on the left side to get clearance, which totally destroyed any gain from using the headers.

As to your carb/dist matter. The L-O-M is a setup made to work as a team, and if you go with a Weber, it will not actuate the advance as needed using the stock dist. I have a Mallory dual point Vacuum only dist I picked up some years ago to use if I ever decide to change carbs for any reason.

Thanks Fred.

The Carter I inherited from the previous owner. I have driven the truck long enough to be impressed with this engine. I currently have the head being redone. It has two burnt exhaust valves, even so I was abe to pull the hill on I17 up to Sunset point in 4th gear! Amazing!

I'm thinking I will put it all back together stock to establish a baseline, then work from there. I have heard rumors that the patriots will work, I just was hoping for something definate. I understand the 1904/LOM dist. thing (I think, LOL). But I don't have the correct carb and I can't imagine a more modern ignition system being a drawback. Once I'm up and running I'll evaluate the webber idea.

PS. I would LOVE to do the T5 swap! How much do you think it would cost me?

Cost of the T5 swap is variable depending on how much you can grab a Trans for. John Mummert sells the converted Bellhousing for about 250 exchange, then you have the Trans, a new clutch, and a shorter driveshaft.

I drive mine all over the country. Last year I went to Kansas City, then on up to North Dakota, and on back home with it, and I only had to downshift to 4th (1:1) a few times coming over the Wolf Creek Pass out of Walsenberg, Colo.

I am happy to report that the Patriots DO work. Strangely the only interference was with the back of the stock generator. A little dimple and all was good. I went with 2" and a crossover pipe back to 26" glasspacks then 1 3/4" on back to the rear. It is a lot quieter than I expected. Too soon to tell about mpg improvements but I'm hopeful.

Good glad you got it to fit should be a nice setup. I would have been surprised if the headers did not fit, as there is no major difference in the chassis dimensions from 53 to 60. I have a set of the Clifford’s off a 59 pickup that am considering putting in a 56. Been thinking I would use about a 2 to 2 1/4 inch pipe to tubo mufflers and same size straight to the back, I would like to find someone that did the duels to hear what they sound like first though. Or else would just use a 2 1/2 to a single turbo and than out with 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 have used this setup several times before and always liked the sound of it. On the distributor you can swap in a later 69 up distributor from the 300 Ford six with a little work, including even the Dura Spark II electronic. The late distributors give you the much better vacuum advance unit did the swap’s in a number of the in old LOD equipped 300’s to a DSII distrib along with a later style carb with it and its just so much nicer to drive them. Other ways are if you want to keep LOL distrib and those early carb’s i.e. Holley, or Autolite with spark control valve than could use a pertronic in the it.
