the timing fence? the gauge with the timing marks mounted to the block seems to be at an angle, I look at the mount and it seems square to the block, but the " fence iis at an anble to the balancer, is this normal? I'm tryning to clear up my Pinging and have replaced the disrib awhile ago and it wouldn't surprise me if I was a "tooth" off when I put the new one in the problem is I've been fideling with the timing and can't can't it to go away unless I set timing to about 0 degrees

200 ci motor 3 spd tranny pertronix ignition 1 bbl carb

thanks for help any info

If your engine has a metal timing gauge it is or was an AC equipped car with a double crank pulley. If you remove the metal gauge there should be a slightly shorter one cast into the timing cover that only sticks out about a 1/2" so you have to have your mark on the inside edge of the back pulley to use it. IIRC the metal one should not look bent, it should be at right angles to the cover and such. Does it make decent power and not ping where you have it set now? If its working I would just leave it and not worry.

it's seems ok now, I'm only getting approx 19mpg in the heat right now, but I think youcall about a "original" gauge might be right,,theres something under the crooked one which stikesme as strange , I'll check for the origninal one tomorrow,,, thanks for help/info
