Hey all Im looking to fit my 67 200 with a fuel injection set up. I am considering the Tempo conversion, and am wondering what difficulties there are with this build. I am a first time six tuner, and would appreciate any help.
I have done a T-5 along with Pet2 Kit. I work at an auto parts store so getting brand new stock parts is no problem, but i need to know exactly what i will need from what years. I am compotent in my abilities and am planning on going with a Megasquirt controller system but was wondering if anyone had any suggesstions anyone had towards this choice...
Thanks

The tempo is a very simple EFI system. Maybe even the simplest :D It is very close to the exact size needed for a stock/light modified 200ci. However, i dont think that it would be able to support enough fuel for a turbo. If huge horsepower is in your plans, a tempo might not be the best choice.

The megasquirt is a very nice choice. I have no experiance with others so i cant recomend anything else to you, but you cant go wrong with a megasquirt.

Im in a hurry now so ill look up the years for some of the things i used later tonight, but is there anything specific your wanting to know about?

Good luck,
Moe.

specifically, what year tempo, obviously it will be the inline six model, what size injector will be needed, and what complications you ran into when doing your conversion...along with any other supplemental parts i will need...IE linkage, Valve cover mods, Air cleaner changes etc...
Thanks a bunch

The tempo never came with an inline six...it is from a 4 cylinder model. If you do a search here you'll get more info. Or search on google or ebay for tempo throttle body and look for something like this:

I'm not sure that 1987 is the right year but that part is the style being used.

you need a throttle body from a 85-87 ford 2.3l engine, found in tempo and a few other cars. And yes it is a 4-banger.

The injector(1) for this car is limited. There are zero aftermarket injectors for this throttlebody. There are, however, a few stock injector sizes, indicated by the color of the plastic top of the injector. I only know of green and blue, green being the biggest @700cc/min at 12.5psi. This works out great for the 200ci engine, almost like it was made for it...

Some other parts i used:
a fuel pump from summitracing http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=CRT-P5001&N=700+115&autoview=sku

5/16 steel fuel tubing for the return line, from jegs.

a 0-30psi fuel pressure gauge http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM-800130&N=700+115&autoview=sku

a megasquirt 1 v2.2 computer (the cheapest one, maybe not the best choice for others) http://diyautotune.com/

two gm temp sensors for coolant and intake air temps http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/....html?osCsid=e2229cefdcbe4757ded741f59dc5bc6f

a bosch 1-wire o2 sensor (If you have the money get a wideband o2 sensor!) http://store.summitracing.com/partd...t=BCH-12014&N=700+4294859014+115&autoview=sku

I think thats most of the Major things to buy, but there are Sooo many other little things you will need to get.

You will need to build your own throttle. Cable is a must. Also, it helps to have modify a motorcycle style throttle "cam" onto the tempo throttlebody. I think the throttle was one of the most difficult parts of this project.

No valve cover modifications needed on the stock cover, not sure about an aftermarket one.

For an air cleaner, i bought a 4 inch (i think) diameter ruber hose from napa that slides onto the "in" side of the throttlebody for a seal. I got an intake kit from a friend which was a 4 inch diameter aluminum tube with a bend in it with a air filter at the end. Cut and mangled the crap out of it and it fits!

The major problems i had are:
Uncontrollable fuel pressure - fuel pump to big for tempo efi
throttle linkage problem - binding problems, took three designs to finaly work.
injector flyback problem - injector wasnt staying open fully, had to add a resistor in-line and change some settings with the megasquirt to fix it.

Keep us informed of what you decide to do :D

Thanks so much to the two of you i really appreciate it. I cant wait to start gathering parts up for it...i am going to buy all new parts and i agree the throttle linkage will probably be the toughest...i think i may end up buying a kit for around 75 bucks...Unless it is really not that difficult to rig up...anyways i look forward to keeping you all updated...i was also wondering what kind of exhaust set up i should go with, i was thinking or classic inline's header set up... i was also wondering what kind of fuel flow i can expect...does anyone have any specs by any chance? I will probably just end up experimenting, but was wondering if anyone had any numbers on the 200 intake and exhaust etc. hopefully i can pull out some math skills and try and figure out the volumes and tube sizes along with the pump size i will need...
thanks again yall

im running hooker headers from summit racing, verynice set up and i love mine... i ran dual out the back with summits racing mufflers and ill tell you ut sound amazing. ill pull up and people will think i have a v-8. the only thing i dont like is that, at low rpms not that loud when you wind her up damn..

Moe$, didn't say in your original thread, but that looks super nice, and is a cool project.

Manik, if you do go with this keep us informed of the progress, i'm sure as more of us around here do this, we'll get a really good how to put together.

Is anyone currently working on a port injected EFI? I think you could run that using the HEI as a cam sensor?... anyway, I digress...

Thank you funky cricket.

With the new alum heads coming out, im sure we will see a bunch of port injection projects poping up. The sooner the better.
