A really quick oil filter question

I found a link somewhere and lost it pertaining to a larger Motorcraft oil filter which will increase capacity to , I think, 5 quarts...Nonetheless, does anyone know of the Motorcraft oil filter model that is adaptable to the 200ci and is of the larger capacity...I think it is F1101, or F111 :?: :?:

I don't know a # for Motorcraft but these will work. They add about 1/2 Qrt.

If you're in a parts place (NAPA, Auto Zone, etc.), just ask for the oil filter for a 361/391 truck/industrial motor. Thats what these filters were originally for.

Ok, I'm confused... an FL1A is what is supposed to be on a 200....
 
Inliner, your right FL299 is the extended oil filter and FL1A is the regular one.

*I only know that because of Mustang Geezer and that 65coupei6 websites

Pardon me as a "big sixer" for following a thread here, but it seems obvious to use the larger filter. Beats me what kind of engineer made an engine with 4 1/2 quart capacity!! If you get to a nice round 5 by using the larger filter, it would seem to be a highly logical thing to do! You guys must always be wondering what happened to that oil bottle with the last pint!!!!
 
My bad....I got them confused...It was the FL299 I saw...Thanks guys...Being new to this hobby/habit I now have, I was skeptical about showing my ignorance, but everyone has been nothing but extremely helpful on this board....Maybe before tooo long, I can actually step in and answer someone's tech question :lol:
 
I don't see an oil filter really increasing capacity. If you look at a clear fuel filter while it is flowing, it never fills all the way up (air bubble inside) I imagine an oil filter does the same thing.

Everyone has an opinion, I'll offer mine: There isn't any need to go larger than the FL1-A. It is a great filter and cheap.

Also, I tried an eperiment on my F-250 where I used an oil filter cutter (I am an aircraft mechanic, the same tool for airplane filters works for Ford filters) to cut my filters apart at 3,000 miles, 5,000 miles, 7,500 miles and 10,000 miles.

After doing a thorough examination and finding pretty much nothing, I now always run my oil filters to 10,000 miles or more. They are cheap, but I just can't justify replacing something that doesn't need to be replaced.
 
I change filters because they are relatively cheap. It's that expensive synthetic oil that I leave in! :D

Actually, on the big Jag we were only changing oil once a year. The engine carries 9 qts of oil and with the durability of synthetic oil, the large volume of oil, and the general low-stress, mild use of the car, our only big concern is filtering the dirt. So a filter change with a Mobi 1 filter twice a year and a top off with Mobil 1 works fine on that car.

The Mazdaspeed is due it's second oil change shortly and we'll switch to Mobil 1 on that car as well, but we're going to be chaning oil more often. The real reason for synth oil in that case is because of the higher operating temps and the oil temp in the turbo bearings. Synth does a better job of holding up in those conditions. Also, the filter is tiny! it's less than a quarter the size of a Ford filter and I can't imagine it has anywhere near the filter area. So I'll be changing the oil every 4500-5000 miles on that one.
