adjusted the valves?

after adjusting my valves the car seems slower but it idles way better and has steady vac, did i tighten them too much or do i just have to readjust my whole setup?

Is it a hydraulic or solid cam and what did you set it at? You still would need to recheck some of your tune-up like the carb mix and the idle rpm setting

I use that method when assembling an engine and than reset hyd. cams with the eng, running to zero plus a ¼ turn.

There could be a good change they are too tight if the car slowed down some.

what is zero, is it what they mean by tightening the pushrod till it will not turn anymore by useing the thumb and forefinger, is the point when it wont turn anymore the zero? thanks for your help

Yes though zero lash = no clearace between lifter, cam, push rod, rocker arm, and the valve stem (valve on the seat too). This also gives the max lift & duration of the cam

8) when i adjust hydraulic lifters, i look for no vertical movement of the push rod. you would be surprised at how far past zero lash you can go if you are spinning the push rod.

This is the best way to adjust valves, solid of hydraulic.
With solid lifters set the lash.
With hydraulic tighten no more than 1/4 turn from zero clearance.
Turn the engine over till the exhaust valve on the chosen cylinder just starts to open, then adjust the intake valve on that cylinder.
Turn the engine over till the intake valve is just about closed, then set the exhaust valve.
Do the same procedure on the next cylinder. Bill
