Adjusting float level

Can someone explain to me how one would go about adjusting the float level in a carb? I notice in the instructions that came with the rebuilding kit that you should measure and adjust the float. It tells you how to measure it, but I don't remember seeing where it said HOW to adjust it.

On most one barrel carbs you simply bend the plate that holds the float, on others there is a height adjustment screw... what type of carb?

The carb is a Holley 1940. As mentioned, in the kit, it tells you how to measure the float height, but I don't remember it saying how to adjust it if it is off.

I just rebuilt a couple of Autolite 2100s, you bend those floats to the right measurement.

...I still keep my 2100, though I found that with the 250 in my ´65 I´ll be really running into hood clearance problems when adapting the two barrel autolite...
