advice on throttle linkage?

i have a 67 mustang with a 2 bbl holley carb and i am trying to figure out the throttle linkage. I had previously created one, which proved to be quite compliated. But functional. Anyway, I would like to replace it. With the carb mounted sideways I was wondering if a cable linkage would be more simple. Is there a kit or a donor that is better or easier than another? Can I work with the existing accelerator pedal assembly?

i was able to use the stock maverick linkage when i upgraded to the h/w 5200. im guessing you either have that or a 2300 right? i think early stangs have a diffrent linkage but if you can get a hole of the style used on mavericks it would go in easy

I used the same stock Maverick linkage with the 5200 and also the 2300 Holleys. The Setup includes the pedal. cable, Bracket attaching to Carb stud and Coil fastener and some cobbed up carb linkage. THis arrangement allows enough vertical adjustment to figure a way to "pull" the throttle shaft (ball stud) from above or below the throttle plate depending on the carbs orientation. This is a handy feature. Currently I have an Offy Tri-Power setup with mechanical progressive linkage. The original Maverick OEM cable broke with the extra strain of yanking 3 carbs to WOT. I replaced the actual cable with a NAPA blister pack performance stuff - universal which had much thicker wire rope cable, The original brackets on the Pedal and engine made it easy.

is this something i would look at a parts store for or salvage yard? is the maverick linkage a cable?

powerband provided a pretty good pic of what to look for. grab the red bracket that comes up over the valve cover, the cable with the spring loaded tip ,peddle assembly, etc. I know any 6 cyl maverick/comet will give you what you need. other fords of the period should also have it

Almost- the bracket from a 250 is different than the bracket for a 200, they are different heights due to the different deck heights of the two blocks. Just get the right one for your engine and the rest works as everyone else has described.

For general knowledge:

Yes the brackets are different but with a litttle "forming", the bracket from the smaller 170/200 will fit the 250. I just had to re-drill the coil fastener hole in the bracket, that's what's on my 250.

PB 8)

well he has a older 'stang and his s/n is "200" so I just assumed he had a 200ci

now that i look at it PB's bracket looks like its eiher really close or right on, touching the valve cover. on my maverick I have at least enough room to squeeze some ingers under it

i dont think you can get any of that at the parts store so you either have to go junk yardin or make it yourself.

good luck
