I have a 69 stang with a 250. I was planning on putting a new air cleaner assembly on, but i only have about 1 1/4-1 1/2" clearance from the carb to the hood. it there any easy fixes for this problem? could the motor be mounted too high up? is that even possible? I have no idea.

thanks

The 250 is taller than a 200 so it will sit higher.

As for the aircleaner? Not sure. Im the kind of guy who would get a carb bonnet and duct it so airfilter is down by bumper on drivers side. Wouldnt look original but should work well.

Howdy mike and All:

You can safely run with as little as 1/2" to 3/4".

You could slot the engine mount holes to drop the engine another 1/2". It's alot of work for a 1/2", but it also lowers the center of gravity ever so slightly.

And I have to ask- why are you replacing the thermostatically controlled '69 air cleaner? What is your goal?

Adios, David

Well when I got the car, it did not even have a air cleaner at all. i think that the air cleaner i have now, looks better. i will probably have to result in buying the 1" high custom made k & n filter. but that is $77

I have a 61 chero with a 250 in it and my friend got the airfilter from a maverick i believe and he cut the carb whole to fit my carb fits perfect and looks original since it sits low i have no problem clearing the hood
