AIR CLEANER

I was wanting to make my car look and perform better. I was wanting to do the Ram-Air setup like inline fever did, but After looking at my radiator support it doesnt look like there is enough room to place the hoses. I am not sure I could weld in some metal to make it happen, I believe that the grille supports are also in the way which I could prabably cut parts of them away, hopefully I will order a billet grille, the only other thing I could do is just buy a chrome air cleaner or have my old one jet-coated to make it look better. Anyone have any ideas? Also I do already have a chrome valve cover and chrome breather cap, and replased a few hoses that were painted with the engine.

8) why dont you do like ford does and go through the inner fender panel to draw fresh air from?

How about cutting an opening for an air intake hose through the firewall into the front of the cowl plenum, it's a high pressure area (i.e., "cowl induction"). The wheel well is good for cold air, but it is a low pressure zone.

Can you route a hose from the four slots in the upper left hand corner of the above picture? What about the hole in the batter tray apron? :P

cant ya re-locate the horn and drill thru there?

I think someone suggested that before...

well the horn really isnt in the way where the horn is, theres only about an inch of space, it would have to be more to the outsides where there is more room, I think I need about 2 and a half inches. Also somone said something about using the cowl vent, wouldnt that cause rain to go into the intake? because most of the time that would be bad, I guess if I raised it up like the cowl vents, which would still be "pressurized" but where can I get one of those caps that you can connect a hose to? I have seen them on a car that had an air box like thing where the battery goes. Thanks, for your help so far and keep it coming!

Nah, rain won't get in through the cowl plenum anymore than through the grille, probably less even. A little water mist is a good thing, too. Although I've been in a few "showers" in sunny FLA that might make me wonder.
Showers....ha, ha.

I just thought of something that would be kinda interesting, I could also make a scoop above the cowl plenum couldnt I? Like to force more air in? Like how the brake scoops are in the gt's. I wonder how that would look.... anyone good at photoshop? I would normally do it by myself but as I am talking ym good comp is having its HD reformatted, so im stuck with on of those crappy original macs...... Man I hat macs......

This cowl induction is interesting, has anyone done it? I know I get alot of air through my little doors. Wonder if it would be a problem when idling.

Oops, I forgot that the battery would block those slots.

well battery moving wouldnt be a problem, And you had a pic of a hole in a battery apron I would have to drill a new one for I have already replced the apron, and as much as I would like to have a paint can in my engine bay, im gonna have to go for a no... I do have a pretty thin sheet of steel I could cut and bend. Also does anyone know where I could get one of those caps that I saw on the carb that leads to an airbox on someones mustang? Im gonna keep looking but thanks for all the help so far, and keep em coming!
