Alternator Power Pulley Question

I was reading some info at Powermaster web site on the ratios and the linear power curve for alternators.

http://www.powermastermotorsports.com/p ... lleys.html

In this very good article they discuss alterators and amp power for the strip, custom, and the street cars. For street cars the common preferred ratio is 3:1...IE 3 turns of the alternator pulley for every one turn of the fan pulley.

I have what I think is a stock fan and a stock reman alternator. The stock pulley measures 5.5" dia and the alternator pulley measures 2.75". The ratio is 2:1 and can this be the problem with my 65amp alternator and the dimming problems I have been encountering.?

BTW the relay change for the lights was easy and quick and I have gained some stability but not total.

So my questions are (1) is my 5.5" the correct dia for the fan pulley? (2) is 2.75" the correct dia for the alternator pulley? (3) can you change the pulley on the alternator without buying a new alternator?[/url]
