Hey every body,
I know (I think) the 250s and big bell 200s share the same bell as the small v8s. I'm wandering if the small bell 200s,170s,etc share the same 5 bolt bell as the 260 and early 289? OK, I'll come clean although this won't make me very popular around here, I want to go the v8 route and I was thinking if a 260 would bolt up to my small 6 cylinder bell that would be 1 less part to buy.

260 uses a 5 bolt bell as does the early 289.

144,170, 200 uses a 4 bolt bell housing, thus they are not the same.

There are 5 bolt bells floating around but are getting harder to find.

Thanks guys, You answered my question.
The car is a 65 comet with a cracked 200 in it. I have a 250 sitting in my garage that needs rebuilt but it looks like the low mount starter will interfere with the steering. I recall some guys talking about reaming the holes on the center link and mounting it upside down. Did the factory change the center link when they started putting big bell 289s in these cars (besides just making them bigger) Can I just buy a v8 center link?

I think your 200 six centre link just has a single tapered stud at each end - right? Also the Pitman and idler arms have two holes in them - one each for a tie rod end, and the centre link.

Whereas the V-8 centre link is also the means of attaching the tie rod ends.

Your Falcon presently has one like the top image, while the V-8 manual link is like the bottom one. Mustang ones are sized slightly differently, so won't interchange unfortunately.

Wait though, is there anything i can do with a 4 bolt small bell housing on a 200 to convert it to be able to use a transmission for the larger bell housing?
