Aussie engine trans questions.

My question is this.....If I bought a 4.0L OHC motor and transmission, are the internal parts of the transmission available in the US? I would like to build a auto trans with trans brake. I like the power that is available from running a turbo on these engines. I just dont think the US Classic Inlines head can build the kind of power I am looking for.
 
I think not. These transmissions (4 speed) were built in Australia and I think unique to this market
 
Well I found a few places over there that sell the C-4 with the bellhousing for the BA motor. I can see this isnt going to be cheap.
 
The Ford versions of the Borg Warner/BTR/Ion 4-stage automatic has no parts backup asside from Maserati 3200GT's or Volvo or Musso/Sangyong parts that exist in the US to serives those cars. So the answer is no.


If you want US 5 or US spec 6 speed manuals, you can fit them to the stock manual Ford OHC bellhousing too.

The ZF 6HP26 gearbox is similar internally to the US six speeds fround behind the 5.4 Modular V8's, but the bellhousing is specific to the DOHC and SOHC engines, so unless you own an Aston Martin or Jag, there is no parts back-up for a six speed auto either

The hit pick is latest 2009 to 2011 Falcon Wagon, sedan or 2wd Territry 5-speed 5r55 gearbox. Its potential retrofit for every 1993 to 2011 Ford Over head cam engine. For 1988 to 1992 SOHC sixes, there has to be a modification to suit that later Ford Austraila gearboxesIt has a Mustang 5-speed 5R55 internal gearbox in a Falcon OHC case, and its the best option in my opinion. Its strong, and can allow the earlier or later command modules to be retro fitted to the earlier blocks. So you can have drive by wire if you wish, or eliminate it. You can run a US Explorer, Mustang or any US 4.0 trans command module to an earlier ohc engine, and has full parts back-up.

It uses a stock 160 tooth flexplate which is basically a repitched 157 tooth neutral balance item, similar the the US 250 c4 item. It actually uses the pre 1966 260/289 C4 160 tooth ring gear. Like all Aussie I6's since 1966.

For all OHC's, the C4 and PowerGlide kits exist. They are just a cast alloy bellhousing made for drag racers. If you want to step back from Fords modern 4, 5 and 6 speed gearboxes, you can with ease. There are options, they range from cheap to expensive depending on your goals.
 
The BTR85/91/95/96 4-speed is a pretty good box and they're cheap too. I've been running one behind my crossflow for nearly a year now and I've have no troubles to speak of. If you use a controller from an EA2or EB1 they are really easy to wire up too. There is a thread around here somewhere with some pictures...
 
Lots of good info here thanks guys. Im still leaning to C-4 options, however the 5r55 is interesting. My car will be mostly drag race, and a few local car cruises.
 
The Transmission problem exists due to local content requirements and the fact that since 1999, all US auto gearboxes have no separate bellhousing. The Falcon BTR LE is strong enough to use and abuse, but its not as simple as the C4. Peak capacity is about the same.

Plenty of XR6 Turbo guys prefer to use it for drag racing because it'll hack 600 hp before crying enough.
