Hello,
I'm new to board. I've been here a while reading but just recently registered. I'm hope someone can help me with my problem. I have searched the site but can't find help for my particular problem.
I have a Autolite 1100 carb. It has been rebuilt. I need some help getting it adjusted. The problem is the car starts fine and once it warms up it runs fine. The problem is once it starts it runs like it is flooding for a about a minute of so. The choke is leaned all the way. Can someone please help me. Thanks

Two things I would check.
1. Can you turn the fuel mixture screw in anymore. Don't over tighten. If you cannot turn it anymore, it could be damaged or possibly the sat is damaged from previous overtightening.

2. I really suspect that the float setting is too high or the float is sticking the fuel valve open. You'll have to take apart the carb and verify the float setting and make sure it is not binding.

fuel/air adjustment screw is fine.

I guess the float setting could be the problem.

choke is leaned all the way? All the way open or closed? Auto or manual choke? Auto choke should be pretty much closed when cold and as soon as it starts the vacuum pulls it about 1/4" open and it slowly keeps opening till its full open. Manual choke should operate the same way. If you need I can look it up in my 66 shop manual but IIRC when I did mine I just messed with it a bit and it worked. If its auto there are a bunch of passages including in the base plate that need to be clear and also something about a hole in the base gasket, there is also issues with the heater tube and that metal clip that holds the heater hose to the side of the stat which is adjustable.

Thanks for the answers guess my some of these tips will help.
It is auto choke. When say leaned all the way. I mean the black cap is turned toward lean as far as it will go. This helped but hasn't corrected it completely.

You might want to check the fuel inlet needle valve as well.
I had some troubles last week, and found a small piece of wire stuck in it.
There was a little ding in the fuel filter, and I think it was a piece of mesh.

If you think it might be the choke, like it's drifting shut, just pull that black cap off and clean it out. It can get gummed up with carbon from the exhaust. Also make sure the spring is secured between the little anchor pegs on the cap. Plus you can turn it even farther than the indicator on the lean side. It just goes that way or the other.
I say try it without the choke all together. Then clean the linkage up and put it all back togther. Just make a sketch of how it came out because you can get the spring backwards and then it will push it closed when it heats up.

Another thing to check is that the choke spring is hooked to the lever. Its possible that its not hooked or that the tang is broken off the end of the spring. If you rotate the cap it should fully open and close the choke within about 1/3 of a turn in either direction. If its not hooked it wont work quite right but it may sort of appear to work.

Yes sir, that most certainly is true. And a shot of carb cleaner on all the moving parts.

Thanks for all the help the guys. I think I finally got it today.
Turning the black wasn't really doing any thing. So I pulled it apart and think I have the problem fixed. Thanks again. :D
