Autolite or weber?

I have a two part question. First, is the autolite 2100 better than the Weber units for a 200 I-6? And second, the adapter plates for the weber set-up seems to be shorter than the Autolite (clifford). Does anyone have hood clearance problems with the Autolite. I have an autolite 2100 that I will have to rebuild before installing but I'm thinking it may be better to go with the Weber Carb instead of spending the money for the rebuild. Any thoughts?

I have no experience with the 2100 on a FordSix, but I can tell you that going the H/W 5200 route isn't just a bolt-on and go deal - at least if you're trying to get it set up *right*. To do it right, get ready for a cable throttle, and some reading / experimenting on jetting. Time-consuming, but in my hands-on obsessive mind it's been worth it (mileage is up from 20 to 24 and I'm still tinkering).

I think the 2100 would be easier to calibrate (jet), but might not have the mileage potential.

Howdy Back Japetras:

What size is the 2100? The size is cast onto the fuel bowl under the accelerator pump rod. It could be a 1.08, a 1.14, or ?????

The H/W will likely be the mileage champ, but like Jamyers says, it will take some tuning to get it right.

The Autolite will give you a bigger top end potential and is simple to rebuild and to work on. But with annular discharge venturi boosters they can be quite civil on the street.

Both will require adaptation of linkage, fuel line and air cleaner. Both have a ported vacuum source for your DSII.

As far as hood clearance, I can't say.

Adios, David

I have to agree with the two guys above, on a stock 200 I ran the 2100 with 1.08? venturi, had more top end power than the 5200 I swapped to... course, i still am playing with jets...

Thanks for the replys all- I understand that throttle linkage and fuel lines must be changed. That's no big deal. Hood Clearance is another story. The last thing I want to do is change or alter the hood. It seems awful close with the Autolite carb and adapter not even with an air cleaner on. I have heard that a drop base air cleaner will work on an early mustang. Does any one have any experience in this arena?

The Autolite I have has the 1.14 venturi. I also have the DSII installed and Clifford headers with turbos. runs good and sounds good.

Thanks again,
John

I just posted a how-to on linkage in the Holley Weber Jetting Sitcky. Simply put, you can have the link cutr and welded so it will work.

Not yet perfect, but it works and is simple. Had welder friend cut off the right wing with the ball and weld it to the left of the pivot point. Link on works, but ball is too far left, causing too steep an angle, but it worked by twisting the end of the Z bar. Will have another made with the ball a little closer to the pivot point, in order to reduce the angle on the adjustment rod.
