What's the best head for a 200? what's so great about this D8 head everyone keeps talking about?

late model head, bigger valves, larger carb hole, bigger log volume, and hardened valve seats so you can run unleaded

what vehicles of what year can i find the head, i've already got a spare head but if i went to the junk yard to pull one i was going to do a direct mount 2bbl, with these other head i've got i was just going to port and polish then get a 2bbl adapter

should be every fox body car from 78-81 or so
dunno if the t-bird is a fox or not, but if so it didn't get it

The 80 to 82 Fox Tbirds were sometimes unloaded with 3.3 liter and C5. It was amazing it even moved!. They ran the first long wheelbase Fox chassis which morphed out to the 82 Lincoln Mark compact sedan ( crazy like a Fox).

The Aero Bird (also Foxes) from 1983 onwards got the 3.8 instead.

A point worth noting. Foxes never got the 250 because of hood height and compliance issues. In 1981 to 82, there were the 255, 232 and 250 to choose from. The Granada become a Fox somtime in October 1980, and the 250 got axed.

The Fox is the generic term for the modifed strut chassis released in 104.3 or so for the Fairmont, then 100.5, for the Mustang III, and then 108.4 wheelbases for most of the Lincoln luxo barges. The finite element platform was one of the most versitile chassis units, and is still with us today. The Mustang was basically British Cortina sized in width and wheelbase, which was a 4-cyl car. Yet the 1984 Aero LTD II was based on it, and it was huge. A great design, even if it did take 7 years for the engineers to suss out how to stop the axle doing the funky chicken each time you came to a corner.

Howdy All:

The E0XX head casting is also a good one. It has an extra port milled into the side of the log under the carb flange for EPA stuff, which must be blocked off.

There is some evidence that the EO castings has an even larger intake tract volume than the D8 castings. We haven't been able to measure enough to be conclusive. The difference may not be enough to be noticeable in most situations.

wait so what's the best head? i just put up D8 because i have heard so much about it.

i think i'm going to go with the E0 head, i know were a 82 fairmont is the the local salvage yard, what is a good price? what should i be looking for when i pull the head off? cracks between valves, anything else

The EO heads have a hex shaped intake log. They are a larger volume than the D8 heads, but the D8 heads sport a flat surface on the intake log which make them more desireable for performing a direct mount carburetor modification.

Not to discourage the E0 head, but it can also be direct fitted, just need a little filling (brazing) behind the original carb hole location. That is due to the sort of hex/flat shaped head. But it can be done, just ask wsa111 (William).
