I just thought I'd post a picture of a blow through on LP I was running on my pulling tractor this summer. It's very crude but I only had a couple of nights to get it together before the pull. Some how I need to get the coller(lack of the right name) in the middle of the turbo to turn so the return oil line is on the bottom and a bigger air filter. The turbo was taken off a semi tractor and thrown in the scrap iron pile because it had problems it took some work to get the impellers to turn!!!
How did it work? I was hopeing I could pull road gear, at 2000RPM's is about 25MPH. I'd make about 14 to 16 MPH @1200 to 1400RPM's just a little before it started to make any boost. I don't have a slipper clutch so I was leaving with the sled at about 800RPM. If I ran one gear under road gear. the turbo sounded very nice so I was sure if I could make 1800 I'd have boost but the engine dosen't notice that gear with out the turbo so that really didn't help me. The last pull I put it in road gear opened the engine wide open to about 1800 and sliped the clutch a little as I left with the sled the turbo sounded great the engine didn't pull down I was running 19MPH but the clutch didn't seam to hold it either. It was kind of hard at this point to really tell the tires were spinning and the tractor started to hop!!! I don't have a role cage or a seat belt so the hop is really bad. I backed off on the throttle at about 250FT or so lost enought RPM's that I was under where I get boost but when I opend the throttle back up the engine came screaming back to life but the tires continued to slow down. I did win but I'll probably have to put a clutch in it before the next pull.
The pull I tried this at has one of the highest hp track I pull on I'm guessing I easily would have pulled 115% of my weight. With the tractor at 6500 that would make 7475 lb pull at 19MPH is would require 379HP. Not to bad for 1800RPM's. I really don't know for sure but if I am guessing right the extra 129HP would require close to 8psi boost. Which is really about all the boost I want to give it. I'm 9.3:1 on compression and really don't want a big bang.
