Hi,
I just need to vent, after breaking off a water pump bolt and taking way to long getting it out I finally started to put it all back together. I kad run a tap through all the holes so the threads are clean and off I go. Everything seems to be going together ok when I hear the very same disheartening snap I have heard before and on the very same hole . This is to say the least very discouraging, maybe the third time is the charm.

Thanks
Chris

Hi,
That is the conclusion I have come too. The odd thing is that it did not feel like the bolt hit bottom before it broke. I would have thought I would have felt it as I was not using a torque wrench.

Thanks

try sticking a small screw driver of a nail in the hole that way you can figger out how deep it is and go from there on how long of the screw to use.

8) also the original bolt could be fatigued, yes they do that, or the threads on the bolt are not in proper shape. the thinner bolts tend to snap easily, so i found much to my chagrin years ago.

Thanks for the tips guys, This was a new bolt in a retapped hole as I just finished removing the bolt I broke originally. I was doing this without a torque wrench as I don't own one and was trying to go slowly as I did not want to remove another brokwn bolt :? Iwill use the above mentioned tip to get the bolt length and go one step shorter next time.

Thanks again
