All Small Six C4 vs Toploader 4-speed

This relates to all small sixes
"I think with a 250 you have the ability to use a V8 bell housing and bolt a T5 right to the back of it without any adapter nonsense. You’ll need a cable or hydraulic clutch which I think is going to be better than the Z-bar linkage..."
.

no reason the T5 cable bellhouse can't be used on the 250 with the OEM Z Bar Push linkage, simple fulcrum TO arm adapters are available.

Thank you very much for the information. Did you use a T5 from a 5.0 V8? If so, did it fit perfectly in your 250 engine, or did you need to make any modifications to the bellhousing?

. The V8 T5 dimensions are same but the gearing is better suited to lower RPM power engines like straight six than the 4Cyl T5 geared for higher RPM power 4 Cyl. engines
.
V8 and 250 use everything same - BH , Starter , FW, Clutch and Tranny
.
84 to 93 T5 Bell housing for SBF V8 fits right on 250 - T5 'Cable-Pull' throwout arm BH can be used with a adapter sold for car original 'Push-Arm' throwout arm operation
.
Also any standard tranny BH for a 3/4 speed from a SBF V8 will fit the 250 and an adapter plate to install a T5 with original 'Push Arm' throwout.

I tend to agree with @powerband regarding the V8 T5 vs the inline-4 T5. When I did mine, I had read opinions suggesting that the 4 cylinder T5 gear ratios were a better suited for inline 6’s, so that is what I sourced for mine. I’ve had it installed for the last 4 months and it’s a massive improvement over the 3-speed my car came with but if I’m being critical, I’d say 1st gear is a bit low for our engines. I’m splitting hairs here but if I were to do it again and had my choice, I would put the V8 T5 in.

'83 Mustang GT NWC (non-world class) T5 in the '63 Wagon has stock OEM 3.50 rear and the '61 T5 has 8" 3.80 . The T5/170 is easy driver and '61 T5/250 most fun to drive ....
.
Besides V8 vs 4Cyl., there are some V8 T5 gearing variations notably 1st gear and OD.
.
BTW the term World Class vs Non World Class with T5's simply means NWC T5 use gear oil like 90W and ALL "World Class' T5 use Automatic Tranny Fluid ATF. NWC use bronze bushings / bearings where World Class use roller or needle. The 'GT' NWC T5 in the '63 is stiff when cold and warm is smoother shifting than the WC'...

The aftermarket T5's are usually sold as - 1352-000-251 - or 7003-Z
Same gearing and upgraded 'Pocket Bearing' I/O shaft same as 1993 Ford Mustang V8. (afaik).
.
' 61 has aftermarket '251 - Z ' , '74 Maverick 250 has '218' T5 I rebuilt with typical input shaft housing/clutch TO grenade.
( 1352-218 = 93 Cobra on chart )
