Hi, Just wondering what is normal. I rebuilt a 200, used the Comp Cams 252H kit. I did use assembly lube, and oil additive. Oil pressure is good. At 1000 miles had lifter noise and had to adjust. Now at 1200 miles I have slight lifter noise again. Is that normal or do you think I have a cam problem? Also the thing just doesn't idle as smooth as I would expect. I have the Classic Inlines universal carb and the Duraspark ignition kit. Is anybody else out there using this cam? Thanks

When you say you adjusted after 1000 miles...I assume then you have adjustable rockers with ball and cup pushrods? If so, you might pull a pushrod and make sure the rocker ball is not cutting a groove in the pushrod cup. Some pushrods and rockers don't fit right and this can happen causing a tick. Ask me how I know.

Hi, It is adjustable rockers. I adjusted it again, but in the process found the back adjustment stud/ball had extreme wear. It has worn though outer coating and is worn on one side of ball more than the others. All others look normal. All push rods look normal Anybody run into this before? Thanks

So the ball at the pushrod end of the rocker that fits into the cup of the pushrod is worn? That is actually what happened to me...I mis-spoke in my above post. The pushrod didn't show signs of wear...it was the ball on the rocker that was having a groove cut into it from the pushrod cup. If this is what you are experiencing then the problem is the ball of the rocker is not seating all the way down on the pushrod cup. I ended up getting an aftermarket set of pushrods from Classicinlines that has a slightly larger cup and if fits properly to the rocker ball. That solved the problem. If course I had to replace all the rockers but the manufacturer of the rocker assembly recognized the problem and replaced them for free.

Appreciate the feedback Gene. I ordered 3 spare rockers to try. My pushrods and rocker arm assembly are the from Classic Inline. I am going to put a good rocker on that valve and see if the clicking goes away. Maybe it was just a fluke? Thanks

first noted the problem with adjustable valve gear balls and stock pushrods when he moved to a 2V head and roller rockers. It happens because the pushrods don't meet the ball specification, and the lift in the rockers exceeds to pushrods socket clearance. There are two pushrod diameters, and two types of rocker system, adjustable early, and the two types of later non adjustable.

I've tried to get the spec and details, but they are hard to find.

Same happened when I put my early adjustable rocker gear on my stock cammed 384 thou , 256 cam 1981 B code 3.3...the rockers were noisey, they hit the inside oil baffels, and it looked like the case hardening or polish wasgoing off my stock 1967 200 adjustable rocker gear.
