Cam Questions

I hope that I'm not the only person on the forum that is totaly confuse by what cam to use with an upgrade. I'm going the 3 one bbl route, have already converted to a Duraspark II, and have the original gear ratio on the rear. I want better street performance, but want to be able to put it on the highway and do out of town shows without it sounding like the motor is wound too tight. Met a guy locally that used to have a 200 with the 3 X ! and said I should use a cam with the following specs. 435/450 lift and valve duration of 276-284. This dose not mesh with what I see on Mike's list of cams. Need advice.

Thanks. I'm leaning that direction because of the "good vacuum" rating. I hope to add the vacuum booster dual cyl 67 brake system next year. As I am already taping vacuum for PCV, Auto tranny and Distributor, I figure that I had best stay with a cam that indicats good in that category. Thanks again.

I agree, the 264/274 dual pattern is a great street cam and a lot of guys here on the forum can attest to that statement. It is by far, my best selling cam profile.

It's perfect for the additional CFM's you'll flow with the trips, works well with the C4, and has a bit of a lumpy idle, but not to much. If your going to do moderate highway driving, use a 112 lobe center, which will have a bit smoother idle. If you want more on the bottom end, go with the 110 and advance it 4 degrees when you dial it in. However, that may require a 2000rpm stall convertor for better takeoffs.

Also, if you do go with the 110 and need/want a matching convertor, I can get them done locally for a very reasonable price. You just need to send me the core or give me the specifics on it and a moderate core charge.

Thanks Mike,

Hope to place my order with you by NLT the end of next month. I hope to have the car ready for the Las Vegas Super Run in Sept. and or the MCA National at the ent of Sept, 1st of Oct. I've got to have the carb, engine work, and repaint done y that time.
