camshaft end play spec

I'm installing my Clay Smith cam and I torqued the thrust plate bolts to 15 lbs. Not sure if that's correct, but I measured .130 end play. I have the spacer in place. I can't find a spec in my manual for cam end play, but that seems like a lot. Anybody know the correct spec? Thanks.

You need the spacer that goes between the camshaft dowel pin & the front of #1 camshaft journal.

Did you leave the spacer on the old camshaft????

You have to remove the dowel pin to install this thrust spacer.

I can't find a source for a new spacer, you will have to get one from the junkyard, or hope you have the old camshaft. Bill

The spacer is on the new cam. I just can't find any published spec for the end play, torque on the thrust plate, or torque on the timing gear bolt. The Chilton manual shows how to check it, they just don't show what it should be.

I got to thinking last night that the cam sprocket should probably be installed to check the end play. It didn't show that in the manual, but that would account for the excessive play if the sprocket were drawn up against the spacer. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

And thanks, Mike, for the torque spec sheet. I should have thought to look on your site.
