Carb Spacer

I'm having the "fuel boiling after shutoff" problem noted in several other posts. I am thinking of fabricating a 1/2" thick phenolic spacer to insulate the carb from the intake. My question is whether to put in on the manifold below the Clifford adapter or between the Clifford adapter and the carb. Any thoughts on performance differences? What about replacing the studs in the intake manifold versus the Clifford adapter?

All cars I've had that had a spacer had them between the carb and whatever it mounts to. Logic tells me it is best to separate the heat source from the item affected - BUT you could do it between the adapter and the manifold just as well. Logic also tells me that the closer one is to a heat source (engine) the greater the response to heat, therefore having the spacer closer to the head would block the heat, allowing the charge from the carb more time/distance to flow before heating up. I think it's pretty much a tossup. What matters is how much effort is it either way - do you have to fabricate new linkage to do one over the other? Any other thoughts out there?

Somebody here made a wooden spacer and installed it with gaskets. It worked just fine. I would put it below the adapter so that both the carb and adapter are that much farther from the heat source.

Of course, if you put the original spacer back with the hoses, you would be getting the cooling as it was designed. That is to say, the coolant spacer is not just to prevent icing. It also keeps the hot temp within a lower range.

But then you could do an aluminum shield/heat dissipation baffle. The high heat is coming from the headers, not the intake. Blocking this would keep the temp down too.

Thanks for the help guys. I don't have headers so the heat's from the manifold and I can't use the original spacer with the Clifford adapter.

Any additional comments would be appreciated.

I assume he's using that Cliffie funnel adaptor so two holes is not an issue. Could be good if he did the log mod and billet adaptor though.
