I took my carbie of at to clean it(Dont ask Why). And at the between the carbie and the "Intake" was a part that slotted in. it had two wires going into it. As far a I could make out one was on connected to the outside of this ring and the other was on this honeycombed type material (plastic, carbon???). anyway it broke apart as I lifted it and and when I put it back my car slutters as is theres to much air or to little. what the hell was it and what did it do???

Poor beggar...I can't help you mate, but there are acouple of dozen people here who can  I'll volenteer there services, and they can hunt me down after your car is working

Go to the Aussie forum, find a post from Backlash or Aussie7Mains, click on PM for Personal Message, and one of 'em will help you. These boys are smarter than snakes, and one heck of a lot more pleasent.

I'm only guessing, but my LPG car has two wires which are no longer attached which fed the idle stop and electric choke circuits. Since my car now needs neither, they have been redundant in a glob of tape for years. So it may be :-

a) the idle stop solenoid, which creates a leak or restriction to stop the car dieseling on turn -off. It must have power to run at all times to allow the car to run.

b) All XE and XF'S with carbs had electric chokes. Some unleaded cars would have used a fuel control valve.

c)Dunno what other emission circuits the XF ADM 34 Weber had on it.

My XE got the old carby ditched, and I don't use a repair manual. Bill Colquhoun has manuals to refer to, he could also help

I know what youre talking about. Best what I can make out, is its heated, and it breaks up droplets of petrol before it gets sucked up into the cylinder, for emissions. I've only seen them on XF Falcons. It'll still work just as good without it, and probably better, since I daresay it'll restrict flow somewhat.

I had a Chevy S-10  that had the same thing. It is an electric heating element to help warm up the intake for less emissions on startup.
