All Small Six Cheap muffler setup specifically for run stand?

This relates to all small sixes

This is a silly question I could probably just figure out on my own, but wondering if anyone has any creative ideas or best practices.

I have a 144 on a DIY wooden test stand (pictured, before i correctly set timing)

And well, its LOUD. Like, scare my dog to go hide in my basement and piss off my residential neighbors loud. Those race bullet mufflers on it do nothing. Well I just ordered this walker universal muffler:

and just realized that its got one tube and my headers have two.

Obviously I'll have to figure out some sort of 2 into 1 adapter for the runstand, but am I overcomplicating it?

Just go find a 2 into 1 and slip it on? Will the ends of the header pipes line up into an adapter? Especially after I rotate them so they're not aiming at the ground? Do I need flexible pipe? Should I weld on flanges? Will it weigh too much on end of pipes and I should figure out a way to support it? etc.

This is specifically for while its on run stand, I'll think about in-car use later. Thank you everyone

That looks similar to the header I have on my 200. It has 2-1/4” collectors. I don’t recall where I bought mine but I picked up a y-pipe adapter that will slip into the header collector and you can clamp it in place. Then you can just run it into that single muffler. My adapter came from one of the usual parts supply houses.

I loosened the pipes at the headers and manipulated them until the lined up and I was able to get them into the adapter. I’m pretty sure on mine, the Y-adapter slipped into the header collector but you might find one that has a large enough inside diameter to slip over the collectors. Take a down tube with you to the parts store.

You might also need a reducer or enlarger adapter for the output of the y-adapter to fit your muffler input.

Support the muffler somehow. You don’t want all that weight on the headers. You’ll break something for sure.

By the way, the accepted wisdom with these engines is that they provide more torque and power with a header into a single pipe which is why I ended up with a Y pipe. I went 2-14” from front to back. Then I used a Camaro transverse muffler to go to duals. The one I used is for a 93 or so Camaro and it sounds amazing. It’s not loud and it doesn’t drone but it sounds really deep and it kind of howls at around 1500 RPM. Not obnoxious but it sounds really great.

Thank you! I'll bring the downpipe with me to the store to max sure i get the right size.

I use a short length of corrugated flex hose to a glass pack to get sound and heat away from stand and me . Then can fold it away for storage. Still kinda' loud but takes the bite out of the sound. Inexpensive flex pipe and two glaspaks' or mufflers sounds like easiest solution .
