choke

im rebuilding the carter carb from my 75' straight six and im putting it on my 77'. the thing is my 77' doesn't have the hot air tube and the carb from the 75' has all the permanent hot air attachments, is there any way i can get this to work?
i dont want to buy the electric choke because the prices i found are too high for what they do.
is there a way to run my own hot air tube? or will i have to rig up a manual choke?

Get one of these things at a speed shop:

It has a little house that you strap to the manifold. It can be stock manifold as well. It does exactly the same thing as the stock setup. Called 'choke stove'.

The Dorman products are sold at most parts stores. One of their brands is the Help! line. Sometimes stores (like napa) have their own brand and part number on them but they should be able to cross them and order em.

I suspect it would be very easy to make your own choke stove. Say a tomato paste can with couple holes drilled in ends (if you can figure how to get paste out..) or piece of exhaust pipe with plate welded on both ends and little holes drilled or even a piece of galvanized water pipe with two end caps and holes drilled in caps, clamped to exhaust with couple stainless hose clamps, then piece brake like from one hole in stove to the choke on carb. Just need good contact with exhaust so air inside it gets nice and hot.

You know, I bet dont even need a "stove", just clamp a length of open brake line the length of the exhaust manifold to the manifold, running one end to the choke. Air sucked in the open end would be plenty warm by time it got to the choke...

Some guys wind a loop of soft copper tubing around the manifold once or twice. Same deal. I kind of like the manufactured look and it was only five or six dollars. Maybe a little more. I forget. It was several years back.

Mine had a piece of pipe cut in half clamped to the manifold with the choke tube stuck inside it. It's all gone now..waiting for a header from Mike with a new longer choke tube!!!
