IMHO that's only a good deal if you can send them in forged rods and get forged rods back. They would have to guarantee that in writing. Thats not a good deal IMHO for cast iron, nodular iron, or cast steel rods.

Not sure if they are still having problems but Clifford's customer satisfaction used to be lacking in a few critical areas...like satisfaction so Caveat Emptor. I would call and talk to someone and get a name and get a estimate on turn around time.

I think I paid about $230 for my set of six forged 170 rods, add $60 for ARP rod bolts, I am doing the polishing and balancing, and about $60 to shot peen.

So about $350 invested to do everything they are offering.

forged rods were used until about '72 or so, or you could do some searching and find them aftermarket (i believe)

eBay is your best bet really

I could not find any aftermarket rods for the 170/200. Everyone told me the length is too short to go with their blanks.

If its a stock rebuild you could probably use any of the rods available. Your not going to be stressing the engine.

If it is a performance rebuild the forged rods are just good insurance. I looked on Ebay for 170 rods and found a guy selling rebuilt rods for $31.99 each. I bought six.

I had already purchased ARP rod bolts but knowing the brittle nature of cast iron I could not bring myself to trust the stock rods.

Same with the pistons. I could build my whole engine with cast pistons or blow 2/3 of the money on forged pistons and worry about having enough to finish the motor. I could not bring myself to put cast pistons in a turbo motor.

when i said aftermarket, i was thinking that there's a rod out there somewhere that would be close enough to the 200 for it to work
i think i remember someone on here mentioning a Honda rod? i'm not sure

For aftermarket rods check with Saenz as they make rods for the 188 & 221 in South America IIRC.
