hey guys, havn't posted since i became a member but have some questions. i'm not trying to make my falcon a street rod or any thing like that, in the process of makin my 68 f250 to do that. i would like to know what i can do to get the best fuel mileage and a smooth ride out of my car? it has the original 170 and 3speed on the column. still has original drums and 13" tires as well. any info will be appreciated. thanks :D

A more modern ignition system is always a great place to start. Some form of the Duraspark setup will do you wonders.

Howdey 6T4:

You could do a search on economy or MPG and get tons of info, but to repeat.
* Increase your initial advance setting 5 degrees more that specs.
* Adjust your low speed air screw for the highest idle/vacuum.
* air up you tire PSI to 5 lbs more than what your owners manual specifies.
* make sure there are no gas or vacuum leaks.
* Reduce you engine idle speed and never idle you engine.
* make sure your choke is set as lean as possible.
* invest in a new air cleaner and gas filter.
* run a can of fuel system cleaner through the tank.
* gap you spark plugs at .038" to .040".
* Make sure your brakes are not dragging at all.
* short shift and never drive over 55 mph.

That ought to be worth a couple miles to the gallon.

What is the casting # on your block. If it's C4XX it will not be easily converted to a DuraSpark upgraded ignition system.

Adios, David
