Cracked head. Another PITA. What should I do?

JackFish is on it!! I used car-part.com last week and bought a head from a place called Mid City Auto Supply in Hastings, Nebraska. The guy swore up in down that it would not work because it was a D7 head off of a 250 and I'm putting it on my '68 200 block. Regardless, I convinced him to sell it to me and he guaranteed no cracks. It was, as advertised, 'crack-free'. I paid $65 for the head and $45 for shipping to ohio. Got it in two days and just got the direct mount 2bbl done. They have the casting #s listed on car-part for the other two heads they have. IIRC one is a D7 and the other is a D0. My D7 has no EGR hole. Search a 78 Granada w/ a 250 and look at how many you will find!!

Looks like thats the route I'll take then. Thanks for all the tips guys, and thanks Challenger6 for the offer, but now that I found out the benefits of a later head, I gotta get one! I'll keep you updated on the status. The only problem is, now I have 90 bucks in credit at the salvage yard. :?

Gotta call from the machine shop today, my big log junkyard head is junk! Had my suspicions when the bolt behind the carb was encased with carbon, the one I pulled off my 66, same bolt was a pain to get out I suspect it has some issues too though it ran fine. I don't think I want to keep wasting time and labor at the junkyard, I paid $50 for the head and thats the core charge for an autozone rebuild, anyone tried one of these? How about some more info on shops that can repair them, not everyone can afford over a grand for an aluminum head. :help: :thanks:
