Custom EFI intake manifolds...sweet

I briefly toyed with the idea of placing the injectors on the outside of the bend on a 300-6EFI lower intake, but heat concerns prevented me from doing that. I figure, if they are placed back there, then there will be more time for the air and fuel to mix. If I go as far as to make a custom lower, I may do that, but with a heat deflector under the injectors. Oh yeah, aluminum isn't fun to work with. I can reliably TIG weld stainless, and know that it will hold up to rapid swings between pressure and vacuum, but I really question aluminum's ability for the same. I am sure that cast aluminum is more than up to the job, but when you weld it, you severely weaken it, and aluminum welds typically retain 60-80% of the strenght of the base metal. Not to mention that the aluminum pieces I would need are more expensive than stainless, as aluminum has to be extruded to make tubing.

Ive also seen them epoxied in...but i really dont like that because it seems kinda cheap...if you know what i mean....i prolly wouldnt mind welding bungs onto the stock steel manifold, but it doesnt have nearly the airflow like the clifford. My dad and i were talkin and he said to tap each intake runner and put a gauge on them to see what the vaccum is like for each one. If i force induced it, it would prolly help out a bit on the uneven airflow, but the gauges will tell me which one is getting more air..... but i cant remember if it would be the higher the vacuum, the less air, or more air. I believe it would be less air. Yeah.?? i canttthink right now...jeez... :roll:
 
A tap would be neat, but you'd need other instruments & readings to quantify it- mainly a mass airflow meter (The dyno carb 'horn' in it's simplest form). The individual readings would be sapped by the pressure wave effects in the intake, as well as differences in intake runner volume.

Why would you need to know the individual flow? Are you planning on a sequential setup? Most aftermarket systems start out using batch-fire.

I bought my injector bungs and fuel rail from Force-efi; I like the ribbed rail he uses (it matches the top of my motor). Goofy, huh?

I just joined this great discussion group and found the topic of EFI for the big Ford I6 interesting.

I have done some preliminary research on an EFI and contacted an Aussy (InjectionPerfection.com) company some time back. We discussed a configuration using a Clifford side draft webber carb manifold which I would provide. They would use their neat webber- like throttle bodies, would fabricate an appropriate fuel rail and throttle linkage, would provide the injectors, velocity stacks, air cleaners, wiring harness, sensors, fuel lines and filter, fuel pump, and computer as a fully engineered piece.

With the exchange rates being in our (US) favor, the pricing was comparable to domestic V8 aftermarket products from Holley and Edelbrock. You might want to check out their web site. Russk
 
I too am assembling a port injection setup with the TWM product line. I am using a Clifford intake for three DCOE Weber side drafts for my Hudson.

TWM doesn't offer an ECM... Does anyone have a recommendation on one to use?
