D8 head cost

Just wondering what you guys are paying for used or rebuilt D8 cylinder heads? I may have found a local supply for them, but want to know what a fair price would be. What are they going for in bone yards around the country? Or for rebuilt ones? Thanks.

I talked to the guy today and he said he has several, but he is still working up a price for me, if I buy all of them. Just want to make sure I don't over pay for them.

$50 to 100 at local yards in my area. I spent $500.00 for complete rebuild. cc head, new valves, springs machining for two barrel.

If it is a group buy, I would also say $50 each.

You don't want any E0xx heads?

This is like auto makers buying cities' mass transit. Stage One of Mike's Evil Plan.

When there are no longer any log heads available for spares, what will people have to do? Buy an "Azzie" Head (sorry mate  ).

I just bougth a full 200 out of a fox body (will have to check head casting numbers but it is a high mount starter.....prob a D8 head) for $150 with them pulling it for me....fully dressed with carb adn all.

One of the local mustang yards quoted one of our members a price two years ago for a used head. He wanted $350, which I knew was totally outrageous.    That's the only number I had to go by, which is why am asking. My guess was about $100 used, and a stock rebuilt with a three angle, maybe $300-350 average? He also has a lot of D7 and E0 heads. :?:

for a rebuild with hardened seats, 5 angle, RR on rocker shaft, .020" deck and top end gaskets ran me $370 5 years ago. so about $300 is prob spot on for a fully gone over head.

my new head is getting a mill for direct mount here at school and prob will have it tanked at a local shop and then just lap the valves back in and toss it on the car

I've only bought one used head and it was '74 250 for 25$ plus exh manifold 25$ plus valve cover 10$ (60$ total) but I had to pull it myself. Another yard I stopped at said they would be 50$. No prices for rebuild available at this time.

Have a local core facility here in the Louisville area which sells complete I6's with transmission attached for $120.
These are 'cores' which he thinks are good foundations.
I haven't priced just a head as at that price the extras, carb, starter and gen/alt and AC(sometimes) are worth taking the whole thing.
He even loads them in the PU for me! :-)
With everything you'd have to do to the head, I'd not spend more than $50 @ especially in any size lot.
Unless you have a right of refusal after investigating the core itself.
I'd not go much over the $50 even then.
But that's just me right now and I'm broke anyway!

$50 tops unless it ws rebuilt very recently and has the receipt. Heck, I only paid $100 for my current engine with a rebuild receipt. It's not like these heads are that desirable or that rare.

funny you say that slade......around here they are getting hard to find since they aren't desirable. the cars they were in are no longer on the road around here (haven't been for a few years) so they are drying up fast

I've cut one up for science and gave another away last year to a 6'er who need it in the area. I still think I have one floating around somewhere.

I bought a head off e-bay last year for, I think, 35 bucks ($85 to ship). I don't know what all he did to it, but it really woke up the little Falcon.

My original head (C0DE) was rebuilt, hardened seats, new guides etc all for $200. B&B Machine Shop, Siloam Springs AR. He's got a sweet 63 Galaxie, so at least his priorities are right!

What's the plan Mike? You going to offer rebuilt D8 heads? Or are they for testing purposes?

Well, that's the plan, if the price and machining cost are reasonable. In limited numbers of course (while supplies last).

Rebuilt with oversized valves, 3 angle valve job, blended runners, mild port & polish, 52cc, milled log with direct mount Holley adaptor, and cable kit (optional).

We are also thinking about producing a CD with all sorts of info on the cylinder head mods we performed and the dyno/flow results. All run up on the same motor for good comparison. While researching info for the new FSPP aluminum head comparison, we gathered up a fair amount of interesting information.

Sounds like a good idea with the headwork, to take up where Larry let the firm down.

Only problem I could see with a CD, is that most people would copy it off someone. It may be one reason why D&D Schjeldahl stay in print format.
