Dipstick

I just picked up a new (to me) 250 which will be going in my '74 Maverick soon. I noticed when I got it home that the dipstick tube is missing and appears to be snapped off or something.

How do I go about putting the dipstick tube off my old 250 onto my new one? Does it just pull out and press in or what?

Thanks!

yeah it just pulls out--i took one out of my 144 for my 200. it just pulled out--after I took a accetylene torch ,a pair of vive grips and a bfh(big freakin hammer) to it.

Yeah ... I broke it off ... it wouldn't come out.

I bought a 302 chrome one for my new engine and I cut off the tube and dipstick to the proper length. The first one bent when I was knocking it in and it was so tight I had to use a long screw drive and pop it out from the bottom side of the engine using a hammer. You can do the same on the 250 you got from me ....

Bump.

I am curious about the bent-8 dipsticks because I managed to snap the handle of of the dipstick on my engine and no catalog I have seen sells them for the inline.

Cheaper yet...I just asked around at work if any one had any old Golf Club Shafts that they wanted to get rid of. Then take the shaft and where it tapers down toward the Club end cut off the length that you need for the dipstick, and there you go a FREE Chrome Tube...Looks pretty good if I say..

I guess I mean that no catalog I have seen sells replacement dipsticks for our inlines (chrome or otherwise).

Almost all catalogs sell replacements for the smallblock 8.

Actually, the tube on mine is fine. It is the dipstick itself that is broken. I would look at some boneyards, but for some reason there just aren't many in my area at all.
