Distributor selection question LOM vs '68 up

I have been readingup on the load-o-matic & SCV valve info. Question that I have is from a performance perspective (torque when taking off from a light, fuel economy, driveability) is the '68 up distributor prefered? I have a newly rebuilt '71 dist available (don't know why or how long I have had it on the shelf) and I could always block off the SCV.

I am asking all this since I just found out that my vac adv is not working on the LOM dist that I currently have. By the time I swap out the vac adv, I might as well swap out the dist as a unit. Your thoughts? TIA

I prefer the Non-load-o-matic distributors due to their ability to be tuned to your needs/desires. That said, you may have to tune the distributor to get a better advance curve. Several of us have found that the distributors from the parts houses don't seem to be to the same specs and may have different weights or the weights flipped over.

If you are retaining the SCV equipped carb, plug port and run the distributor's vacuum advance off of the manifold vacuum tap.
