Hey, Fred,...you seem to be the expert!! I understand that my OHV 215 six was originally 6 volts, but it has been adapted to 12 volts; does that make a difference for me to get a new distributor ?? Thanks.....
 
When Ford changed from 6V to 12V the change was made from positive ground to negative ground. Check the polarity of your coil.

Thanks for the compliment but there are lots of knowledgeable folks around here. I don't like to claim to be an expert. What I do have is several parts books that cover '32-'59 cars and '32-'55 trucks, and recent experience with flathead V8s, 226 flatheads, and a 215 overhead. I doubt that makes me the expert on this forumn though. Fred.
 
That makes things easier. Someone had told me that the condenser for 12v wouldn't be the same for 6v.
 
According to the NAPA parts website the condensor is the same for '52 and '56 Fords. I'm not sure but I think Ford just put a resistor in line with the coil on '56 cars and used the same coil and condensor as the prior six volt cars. I can check on this, but it will be this weekend before I can get a definite answer. Basically if you are not burning your points out in 10000 miles, your condensor is fine.
 
Good!!! ...........My Ford is not running now. It's been "hospitalized" for some tune up and body work, paint, etc. When it's ready and good looking, I'll proudly post some pictures........
 
I underestand that some parts are the same for engines of different makes and years.
What other distributor can I put in my engine? Does it have to be necessarily a 52 Ford?
In general, from what other engine (or year) I can get parts for mine?
 
There is some interchageability in the early overhead valve six Ford engine series (215 - 223 - 262). The most significant changes happend in 1954 when the motor mount locations and distributor moved. The 215 and 223 share the same stroke (and maybe crankshaft) and the head will swap between them. Some of the late 223 heads had bigger valves and maybe intake passages. I don't think there is any reason you can't use a 223 distributor in your 215, but I don't know for sure. Check drive gear locations, sizes, hold down clap locations, etc. on your distributor when you try to replace it. Also be aware that Ford may have changed the advance mechanism in the later distributor. Make sure to match the advance curve to your engine.
 
Just noticed you're in san Antonio, Fred.......A friend of mine - not far from San Antonio - will be visiting me (Montreal) in a couple of months.
Is there a place you could recomend in San Antonio, or Austin where he could pick up some parts and bring them over to me???? I need things like: emblems, scripts, oil pump, water pump, fuel pump, parking light lenses, etc. etc. etc. .....I just want to avoid shipping charges :lol:
