DSII from a 81 Mustang

Hi. This is my first post as a new member to the forum with a question about the DSII out of a 81 mustang with a 200 I6. Will it work with my 66 200 I6 or do I need one from a Fairmount?

Welcome to the forum, you found a great site w/ great folks and a lot of info and experience on the ford sixes. To answer your question, yes--it should work fine. There is a neat sticky here that will help you with the install.

Howdy Raghead:

And welcome to the Forum:

The DSII will adapt fine. the problem is that it is not completely compatible with your stock OEM 1100 Autolite carb with a Spark Control Valve (SCV).

The SCV sends a modified vacuum signal to the stock OEM Load-a-Matic distributor. Some, on this forum, have sent a manifold vacuum signal to the distributor for vacuum advance with good results, but for an otherwise stock engine that will supply too much advance at high vaccum situations.

Also regap your plugs to .045" or .050" to take advantage of the DSII stronger spark.

Next think about upgrading your stock Autolite 1100 for an 1101 from a '69 Mustang with a 250 engine. It has no SCV and can send the proper vacuum signal to the carb. You'll be pleasantly pleased at the improvement with the DSII and the 1101.

Enjoy the journey.

Like I said, great info, with guys like david and dennis. They have a neat and essential book on the ford six. You would be wise to invest in it. It is the Ford Six Performance Handbook. You can get it at www.classicinlines.com

'Mike AKA Azcoupe' will become very familiar to you too, he is responsible for some cool upgrades for our sixes at the above site.

Sorry David I forgot that not everyone is running a modified head. Had to plug your book as well, I have just about torn mine apart---gonna have to get a new one.

David, A thanks from me for that posting as well. I had been wondering for what year and application to look.

Thanks guys for all of that great info. I checked on that 81 Mustang and it wouldn't take a whole lot to make it a nice driver, one more stang for the stable. Will get back when I figure out which direction but will change out the point system for sure.

Been to several part house trying to find the Autolite 1101 for a 69 Mustang. Most list the 1100 and the one that listed the 1101 could not get it. Does anyone have a part # or know where I can get one?

If you dont have a core to rebuild yourself or take to a GOOD builder.... This seems to be where all the 'mail order' places get their carbs. They aint cheap but they got a good reputation.

I THINK the diff between the 1100, 1101, & 1102 was manual vs. auto choke and automatic (extra decelerator pump) and manual transmission (only one pump). But till this year I was a GM guy so what do I know!
