DUI 12V wire?

All those out there that have installed a DUI, where did you take your 12v from? I was looking at going back to the ignition switch, but would be interested in other options.

Best is to remove the resistor wire that is between the key and firewall connector and replace it with regular wire. I cheated a little bit and put a relay on the voltage regulator since it has a key on signal and a large wire to the battery. The one flaw in my plan is the regulator is not on during cranking so I still had to hook up the wire from the starter solonoid. It works but I plan on doing the wire under the dash this winter. Its kinda a PITA since under the dash is the one place in these cars that is kinda jammed full of stuff.

uh-huh - hence the question. Got myself pretty well wedged in there last night flat on my back jammed between the wheel and seat with my legs out the passenger door :bang:

Nice to see you up Mike.

As you've probably guessed the package arrived, and it fits like a glove. Return should hit you early next week I'd say.

Using the original coil hotwire to power a relay was what I was thinking of and looking to see if anyone else had success with it. That way I only need to run a wire from the batt to the relay then to the DUI with the coil -ive switching the relay which I can mount on the back of the shock tower (I'm assuming mounting a relay on the block where the coil was isn't the best idea - tell me if I'm wrong). Makes going back to coil easy if I want to at some later date (though can't ever see myself doing a concourse resto so ...)

Am I missing something? Has anyone done this with success?

That'll work fine. Long as the relay is rated for continuous operation; also put some rating of fuse on your feedwire between the battery and the relay - 10A should be plenty.

Cheers Addo. Thought it sounded like the easiest way to hook it up, was just concerned there was some downside that I was missing. So off to Peps for a relay and fuse.

Also need a tee for hooking up the manifold vac. Any problems running brake booster, pcv and advance off the same source? I was going to make sure pcv was closest to the manifold in case any oil etc clogged the smaller vac advance port.

It'll be fine to combine the lot. If you got creative and plumbed the PCV into the carb base, it'd probably be slightly better again... Watch out for the "don't use manifold vacuum on your advance" brigade.

It's been my "observation" (unscientific, just experiential) that manifold vacuum is peppier underfoot and seems to suggest slightly better economy.

I accept the logic that in a perfectly tuned, matched system it may not be the best approach.
