I know that this has already been discused but i pulled a distributor from a 82 fairmont and planned to install it some time soon. But the only thing i pulled was the distributor. Do i need to go back to the junkyard and get anything else like any more wires? If so can i just pick it up at a local auto store?

Oh yeah what do i need to hook that up to a MSD 6A ignition box and a Blaster 2 coil?

This is the only thing i have.

hope i got the site up there

Hi,

If you are using an MSD 6 set-up all you need is the dizzy. Go to Summits web site and pull up an MSD 6A ignition, scroll down and you will see a .pdf file that has instructions for install. They are detailed and complete. You need some extra wiring in a couple of different gauges to run power and connect the dizzy/coil.

You need to either use butt splices or solder you connections and then electrical tape or shrink wrap to environmentally seal them. Make sure you have a 12 volt switchable source. The wire coming from the firewall to the coil works for me but some earlier models have a resistor that drops the voltage to the coil. If that is the case on yours just follow the diagram provided in the .pdf and spice into your ignition switch.

If you have any questions send me a PM I'll see if we can figure it out together.

do i use the "insatlling to a MSD distributor/ crank trigger" diagram and just splice into the distributor harness?

I put a DS II on my car awhile back, so it has been while. Anyway, I got the dizzy, spark/control box and interconnecting wiring from the Granada I found. I also cut out both the male and female wire connectors. That way you can splice/butt/solder the wires together but still have a way to take it apart quickly and cleanly.

If the MSD takes the place of the OEM box, I would still go get both halves of the wiring connector to the dizzy. Those connectors are much better at sealing than what you could fab up.
